The Research and Development Tax Incentive (R&D Tax Incentive or R&DTI) is an initiative launched by the Australian Federal Government to stimulate and assist sponsors extend their development funds by offsetting some of the costs of eligible research and development (R&D spend).
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources has provided the following short summary:

The benefit for sponsors is that Clinical Trial costs are generally considered eligible R&D Activities under this program and depending on your company’s annual turnover, the R&DTI provides either a refundable or non-refundable tax offset.

What this means is that the cost of your clinical trial could be substantially reduced, and result in a potential cash refund of 43.5% of every dollar spent in Australia.
